Toto the Tornado Kitten!

20130417-213003.jpg

This little girl read the book beforehand and was SO excited to meet Toto! She brought him some food to donate to the local pet shelter.

For those of you who are not familiar with the story, Toto was found in a tree as a newborn kitten after surviving a tornado that swept through Western MA about 2 years ago. A paramedic and his wife found the kitten and saved him. They wrote a book and do story time programs around MA to raise money for local pet shelters. All proceeds from book sales are donated.

Dragons Love Tacos

Dragons Love Tacos image from Amazon.com

This super-cute picture book by Adam Rubin and illustrated by Daniel Salmieri is a fun read for ages 4 & older. It’ll tell you all you need to know about how to throw a successful taco party for dragons: how they like their tacos and how they don’t (i.e. NO spicy salsa.) Because, of course, it’s something you’ll probably need to know in the future. The illustrations have some hilarious details that will crack you up – my personal favorites describe the different types of parties dragons like….too funny! The end gets a little “spicy” but it’s nothing a few mild tacos won’t fix 😉

Check it out!

Blind Date with a Book

Borrowed, yet again, from Pinterest and other libraries, this is my version of “Blind Date with a Book.”

I used YA books and wrapped them in pretty paper. I printed out blurbs on each book from Goodreads and put them on the front – careful to erase anything about the title, author & character names. I realized after that I had to have the barcode avilable – it wouldn’t be much fun to unwrap the book at the circ desk to scan the barcode. I probably could have done this a better way, but I felt through the paper for the barcode and used an exacto knife to cut around it. This took a little while….to say the least. Then I looked up some lame pick-up lines. That was pretty fun.

I think only one person has checked out one of these so far – and only because I told her to 🙂 Oh well, it looks kinda cool, anyways. Below is my flyer and some pics of the books on display.

Middle Grade Fiction Review (Audio Book)

Liesl and PoLiesl and Po by Lauren Oliver

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I loved, loved, loved this story! I listened to the audio recording, read by the incredible Jim Dale, and basically it got to the point where I would make up reasons to drive somewhere so I could keep listening to it. It’s wonderful fantasy with a classic fairytale feel. The story is perfectly woven, bringing plots and characters together seamlessly. Filled with magic, misadventure, ghosts, extremely evil step-mothers, love and friendship. Definitely a new favorite!
